Palais de Rei to Melide Monday July 9

I promised pictures from Palais de Rei as we did go for a walk into town after we arrived yesterday.

A lime green house...

A hobbled horse-we figured he must try to escape though the fence, poor thing...

A church of course...

A statute for the pilgrims

Neat cement work...

A few steps...

Shoes with fake flowers growing out of them...

The town centre...

On a Sunday during siesta time it was very quiet.

On the way into town Sue discovered a rain poncho left behind and since it was better than the one she had,she left hers in exchange. it was still there the next morning.

Back at our hotel/motel, we discovered our Vancouver friends having cocktails after their much longer walk from Portomarin. Poor Margaret Anne was almost run over by a van and attacked by a dog!

We spent a rather restless night due to a bit of a mosquito attack.

Today was a rather tiring day. I now have acquired a blister so that was a bit annoying. We had many up hill trudges and not enough cafes though the scenery was quite pretty.

We saw where they seem to make lots of bread.

There were lots of gorgeous flowers again...

Crosses...

Churches...

Stone houses with grape vines and in this case, a nice blue door.

Fields and scenery...
And for those who had enough walking...

And we crossed out of Galicia and into a new province,Coruna.

And finally seven kilometers after we began there was a cafe open and a pilgrim dog...

Soon after we arrived our Vancouver friends joined us.

Our Scottish friends...

And of course there were our new Spanish friends ...

but we had to move on as we had another seven kilometers to go.

More crosses...

A clothes line...

not sure about that strange structure...

Guard dogs having a siesta...

Shoes end up in the funniest places...

Sometimes you see a whole family hiking together...

And then we were getting so excited as we got near to Melide...

But although we reached Melide it was another couple of kilometers to reach our hotel but Irene was excited when she discovered...

We ended up on the wrong street

But eventually found our way and here we are... (note our private deck...)

Five days and about 60 kilometers completed and four days to go and about 50 kilometers. Stay tuned!
