Santa Barbara to Montecito to Carpinteria to Ojai and back

Sue's friend,Nancy, just moved back to Vancouver, after living many years in Santa Barbara, and has given lots of recommendations. Today we decided to take her up on a few.
We climbed into the hills of Santa Barbara and into Montecito and found Park Lane where Oprah apparently has her home. We weren't sure which was hers but I imagined that this might be her view!

Then we descended always winding through Montecito into Carpinteria, a cute beach town.

What a gorgeous as yet not too busy beach.

If I had had a towel I would have tested the water.

The beach parking lot.

And of course it was time for a latte!
We drove along Highway 101,admiring the scenery, turning up before Ventura, back into the hills.

Santa Barbara was kind of cut off due to mountains on both sides, making pushing the railway to join San Francisco to Los Angeles challenging.

Our next destination was Ojai, once the setting of the famous movie, Lost Horizon. Ojai was used as Shangri-La! I was wondering why the name was so familiar to me but it was one of the settings and part of the plot of the TV show Brothers and Sisters. It was also the setting of the movie, Easy A. This is an interesting area. It seems to be rather a New Age kind of town.

It was getting to be lunch time so we found a Fodor recommendation.

Busy Sunday apparently after church got out! I may not have mentioned how HOT it was here away from the ocean! Sue said it reminded her of Okanagan summer heat!

You could do a wine tasting of local wines for a price!

My eggplant Parmesan was delicious!

We had read about an interesting bookstore so that we went into twon.

This bookstore is outside and closes at dusk.

Books and plants...

Our next windy road,150,took us past Lake Casitas and eventually we were on 101 or Camino Real near Carpinteria. We passed another beautiful beach, Summerland, the setting of yet another TV show by that name. The traffic going towards Los Angeles was bumper to bumper. I guess it was the end of the weekend!
After a grocery shopping stop and a bit of a siesta and dinner we walked downtown. As dusk approaches the temperature really cools down.

"Our" courthouse...

A beautiful shopping and dining plaza-La Arcada

We could only window shop.

We love all these realistic statues.

He isn't real!

Great shop windows...
