Well sorry about the silences but we don't see to have wifi in our apartment and I haven't seen any Internet cafes...
We spent our last ate afternoon and evening shopping, eating and enjoying the city. Irene and I enjoyed some very fancy yogurt with a couple of our El Camino friends who we were pleased to run into.
On Saturday the 14th, we left for San Sebastian. We rented a car, and miraculously fitted in all our luggage. It was a interesting trip. Initially we retraced part of our walking route. It seemed odd to see the pilgrims from a car.
Our route turned north towards the coast and then east. It turned out our maps were not quite as accurate as hoped but with a little help along the way we eventually we reached our destination around 8:30. Our route was interesting with varying scenery with glimpses of ocean and lots of hills and mountains.
We got into San Sebastian fairly easily and found our rented apartment. Parking wasn't as easy! It was Saturday night and the city was busy and we seemed to be in the centre of it. After sorting out the apartment and safely parking the car, we went in pursuit of dinner. It was a bit of a shock to the system starting with what appeared to be a marching band. We walked down several blocks to a beach where people were actually surfing! Then we found a place for tapas. All our food knowledge aimed in Galicia seemed to go out the window but the owner's sister helped translate.
Exhausted we went to our new home to bed. Our building was built in 1922 but our apartment is very Ikea modern. We are on the third floor with a circular staircase and a tiny elevator. It is in the Gros district, a few blocks to the surfing beach.
