Those of us who had taken the optional tour to Monserrat returned to our hotel and picked up the rest of our tour group and set off for central Barcelona.
Finally I found myself walking on the famous La Rambla. The name comes from it once being a sewage filled stream bed. The pavement has a wave pattern as a result and it ends at the sea.
It was very crowded on Easter Friday!
Our destination was the square where the cathedral is situated, Pla de la Seu, where we were given time to have lunch and explore.
This mural is on the Architectural College building. Picasso was asked to design something for the building and he sent sketches-this particular one is of Palm Sunday. Here's a bit more information about this.
Just near the cathedral in a quieter corner we found a nice restaurant for lunch! You can see I managed to find more pimentos de padron.
I always love narrow Spanish streets such as these.
Here you can see the cathedral. We didn't go into it this day but Saturday we did.
People were purchasing these bouquets as they went into the cathedral.
It was definitely busy on Good Friday. Here's a bit of the atmosphere that day!
Here we are on Passeig De Gracia.
By the early 1900's this was the most fashionable street in Barcelona. In the middle you can see Casa Amaltier, designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and to the right Casa Batlló designed by Antoni Gaudi.
I always seem to find the chocolate shops but no time to explore as we approached our next destination, Sagrada Familia.
I did manage to peak into the window.
Stay tuned as we will be visiting the most amazing building in the next blog post!
Thanks again for travelling with me.
