Leaving wineries behind we arrived in Portland around lunchtime.
We had splurged on our hotel here, The Monaco (The Kimpton chain) as we both love Kimpton Hotels and when we found we had been once again on this trip upgraded, we were very pleased.
I love how this chain often takes old buildings and turn them into unique hotels.

And here is the lobby-where they have snack bars and ice cream bars for afternoon snacks (our temporary lunch)
We set off on the streets of Portland
And what a great city it is!

Just outside the art gallery we found a public piano being beautifully played.
By the time we finished lunch it was 4:00 so we decided we really did have time to check out the gallery itself so we did check out the gift shop
more public art...
cute side walk cafes making us think of being in Europe-some do call Portland, North America's Amsterdam.
great trees and it didn't seem as dry as Vancouver… mind you they seem to have many water conservation measures that we need to learn from!
we enjoyed music and free wine in the lobby, and dinner at the restaurant in the hotel...
